In the Beginning

"Come to do My work in Kenya.

Send some faithful servants.  Be My

hands and feet."

What else could White Rock Baptist

Missions Ministry say?  But, "Here I

am, Lord, send me."

So, nearly two years ago, the prayers

started.  Then, through on-going

communication with Paul & Kelly

Carline, Canadian Baptist

Missionaries in Nairobi, and CBM

headquarters, in Canada, eventually

plans fell into place.  In fact, plans

were still rather vague until almost

the last moment!

The Faithful Servants

Debbie and Glen Nightingale,

Dianne and Dave Rowan

Not only are they veteran missionaries and world travelers, but more importantly, they have

hearts to serve God wherever He calls them!

The Plans

“To do your will, O God.”

June 23

The first night in Nairobi will be spent at a guesthouse called Heart House.

June 24 - 27

In Garissa

June 28 & beyond

To Dadaab - in typical Kenyan style: 11 people in one vehicle!  Dadaab is a town consisting of

three large Somali refugee camps.  Our Canadian Baptist Missionaries attend to the needs of

these refugees.  Over the next two to three weeks, our team will participate in various repair

and renovation projects within the CBM Dadaab Compound.

Third Week July

Finish up projects and return to Nairobi

July 21-22

return to White Rock.

Encouragement from Paul Carline

My good friend, A___, will be with you the whole time.  He’s very positive and has lots of

Dadaab experience.  Y___ will also be with you and he’s very wise and sensitive with

Somalis.  These two guys will be your team leaders while in Dadaab, introducing you to the

town and looking after all the practical logistics of living and working. They’ve had lots of

experience with Canadians and do amazingly well at bridging the different worlds!

“Concerns that will come up,” sounds a bit pessimistic but you’re going to be thrown into

another world which it is almost impossible to understand and even more impossible to “fix”.

You will feel overwhelmed, angry, disoriented, unprepared, helpless, un-impressive, etc.  It’ll

be tempting to blame all this on others.  You are not only going into a cross-cultural situation

but into a spiritual battle.  God is at work in the Somali world but very differently than He has

worked and is working in our society and churches.  Christ is in you and He will be using you

but you will be no-wiser.  Your after-lunch prayer times will be essential in the unseen battle.

Your love, joy and unity will speak volumes.  A little task done in Jesus’ name – so ordinary to

you will grab the attention of a Dadaabian!

Prayer Requests

For travel safety

For right words in difficult situations

For God's obvious presence

For miracles!

For the word of the Gospel to be heard and accepted
