Praying Friends
& Family,
Greetings from Pontianak! Just wanted to thank you for prayers for RAIN
here. Contrary to predictions in the paper (no
rain till end of Sept), God did send two days of nice showers that have
begun to clear the air of the heavy smoke and
ash that we've had for 3 weeks. Everyone is SO THANKFUL, and interestingly,
we had just begun to have some serious
prayer for rain when it came...God does listen, eh?
Seems the rice field burning in the interior has slowed down and we heard
the police have been working to put out the
forest fires south of here as well, so improvement on all accounts.. The
city's piped water is still very salty ( i.e. feels
like you've been swimming in the ocean after a bath), but we're thankful
to have any running water at all, eh? Axel
Schoeber is here from Canada to teach for two weeks, so we're especially
glad to have the improvements for him!
I must add that I certainly feel better, just being able to see the buildings
down the street and knowing there are
clouds in the sky, instead of constant ash! So, God is good to consider
the things of earth as well as the things of
heaven going on here in Indonesia!
