Dear
Family & Friends,
A word of encouragement to you of God's activity in our world....Janet's
arrival back in Pontianak this past Wed. night
was truly a work of the Lord. . . . There's just no other way to explain
it!
She flew from Manado to Jakarta Wed am, after 5 grueling but inspiring
days of music jury (140 choirs evaluated in 60
hrs). Exhausted, she was told the Pontianak airport would be closed for
at least a week because of dense smoke . . .
so gladly went to a Christian school to sleep. She was awakened two hours
later by her airline co. saying that a plane
would be leaving in 2 hours, so come quickly! Impossible! But, somehow,
someone arranged for this one plane to
challenge the smoke (and the gov't airport closure) and fly to Pontianak,
at night even!
I could not believe my ears when she called, for I knew that hundreds
and hundreds of people had been waiting for
three days at the Jakarta airport, trying to get here for Ramadan (equivalent
to Christmas rush to get home!). She
was almost too tired to be excited, but was really glad to be on her way.
Janet had casually spoken to a young airline
employee earlier, who now arranged for her to sit in a front row seat,
and she did not even have to stand in line with
all the mobs of other people vying to get aboard. Unreal. She who knew
no one in Jakarta had SomeOne watching
over her!
The landing was difficult, all smoke until the last moment seeing the
runway, but God brought her safely on "angel's
wings" back to our home and STK where we minister. The airport was
closed except for a few employees, but no
matter, we were thrilled she was home safely and promptly.
Over the last three days, some planes have been permitted to land. We
had one day of respite, but now the smoke
is back again, so we ask you to keep praying for all the people
traveling in Indonesia for the end of Ramadan, and
for the rain that this country so urgently needs.
Your correspondent in Indonesia,
Dennis
