Yesterday, Dennis and I and two
pastors traveled an hour by car to
visit two groups of "tribals". These
are hill people, that live under rock
slabs in the forest and forage for
food, sometimes working on nearby
farms for a little cash. They wear a
little bit of clothing, no shoes, and
just live a most simplistic life with
almost no possessions. |
They used to be nomadic, but many of these groups have settled closer to roads and towns, and use plastic
tarps and tents for shelter. One group yesterday had built one-room mud huts, and kept goats. The children
do go to school and can read. These pastors, usually after two or three visits, present the Gospel and they
are quick to repent and become believers in Jesus. They know the supernatural realm very well, as many of
them are possessed by demons. When they become believers, the demons make themselves known with
voices and sometimes through "dancing", and once identified, are renounced. The tribals are peaceful,
simple, but dignified, and were so happy that we had come to visit with rice and lentils and small blankets.
We were touched by what a simple visit could do. Even though we can not speak Tamil, we communicated
by smiles and touch. I kept thinking of how Jesus would enter into an unfamiliar village and just by His
touch, change the lives of the people. What a privilege it is to witness for Jesus, even if it is just by a touch
of the hand. |
