Report to Florence Lawford Mission Group
from Jacqui Janzen

Re: Mission Trip with Trinity Western
University students:

Eight days went by extremely fast but I must
say that they were some of the most wonderful
days I've ever had. The difference that I noticed
with this team from other ones that I've been
involved in, is that we all connected really well.
Encouragement and prayer were our key
focuses and the trip definitely would not have
been the same without those.

Each day was a little different from the rest but
mostly consisted of splitting up into two smaller
groups during the day. One group went to
Cornerstone Community Outreach which is a
women's low income apartment building
designed to facilitate permanent housing for
women who have come off of drugs, alcohol, or
just cannot pay the rent of other residences in
the city. There we had the opportunity to clean
up, paint, and prepare two apartments for new
residents. It was hard work but a really
amazing experience.

While one group was doing that, the other was
spending time at Humboldt Christian School
either teaching classes while some teachers
were sick, marking piles and piles of homework,
or spending quality time with the kids. I've
come to realize that I was never meant to be
an elementary school teacher but now I have

much more respect for those that are called to that kind of work. It was encouraging to see that we were able
to give these teachers a break, even if it was small.

Three of the evenings we also had the opportunity to work with an inner city youth group called Y-Men. They
are an amazing bunch of kids and we had so much fun hanging out with them and teaching a couple of their
evening classes. One of my highlights was being able to teach drama with the other Jackie on the team. We
had no idea what we were going to do for an hour and half with a bunch of youth we didn't know, but it ended
up turning into one of the most fun times we had all week.

It was snowing the entire time we were in Chicago but luckily we were still able to see some of the sites on our
nights off. One of my most favorite adventures we took was going skating at night at an outdoor rink surrounded
by tall city buildings. Although another close runner up was eating Chicago's famous deep dish pizza.

I want to thank you for all your prayer and support, it made the trip what it was and I really appreciate you all
for that.

God Bless,

Jacqui Janzen
