THREE
PRAYER
- by Adina Hartin
What is Prayer? Prayer is communicating with
God on a two-way basis. Talking with God is
one aspect. Listening to Him through His Word
and by His Spirit is equally important, if not
more so.
What
difference does prayer make in my
life?
A day without prayer is like getting out of the
wrong side of bed on a foggy day in winter.
Prayer
reminds me of God's faithfulness
and fresh mercies each day. It clears my mind
by bringing to the fore my purpose for living-to
glorify God and enjoy Him forever. All this,
sometimes even before my feet hit the floor,
before being clothed and in my right mind,
before coffee!
Prayer
sets the tone for the day. Lord, give
me a grateful heart. Help me to see others
through Christ's eyes and treat them
accordingly.
Prayer
is the filling station. My car won't run
without gas and my life won't run without
prayer. In prayer, God fills my cup with love,
reminding me that I'm loved with an everlasting
love so that when that "clod" cuts me off on
the freeway, it becomes an opportunity to
practice forgiveness. Isn't that what a
Christian is, one who practices righteousness
and forgiveness? It's time for a second cup -
of
patience, that is! Do I need a refill on that
one!? Monday morning in the super-drug-mart
and the staff is all on one speed - dead slow
and I'm in a hurry! Lord, teach me to be
patient.
Prayer
is my lifeline. Priorities are set for the
day, rather, for my whole life, one day at a
time. A place, a time, an attitude and a book,
the Bible, each day, first thing. Spending time
reading and studying God's Word feeds me and
leads me to prayer. They are so intertwined
that it's hard to separate the two. The Word
spurs me on to prayer. Prayer leads me to
praise, to worship and worship fulfills me. Lord,
I worship You; forgive me where I've failed;
change me, reign in me, Lord. Time with the
Lord in prayer cleanses, humbles, charges my
batteries, causes me to be aware of complete
dependence upon Him for strength, wisdom,
direction, power, for the very breath of life,
for everything. Thank you, Lord, for who you
are and for all you've done for me!
Prayer
is a guidepost on the road to
maturity and must be followed.
The World reflects the shortfalls, the
blemishes, the sin, the weaknesses in my
character. Prayer is the means by which the
Lord changes me and conforms me to the
image of Christ.

What
difference does prayer make in my
ministry?
Without prayer, there would be no ministry.
The Lord is my Source and His glory, my Goal (Phil.
1:20, 21).
The Lord gives ideas for ministry - in prayer.
The Lord gives strength in ministry - in prayer.
As each one has received a special gift, employ it
in serving one another, as good stewards of the
manifold grade of God (I Peter 4:10). The Lord
equips those He calls to service in ministry and
provides all we need: courage, creativity, wisdom,
guidance, energy-all through prayer! What a
privilege to be His servants!
The Lord produces results and gives the harvest.
He has placed ministry on a prayer basis. The
harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few.
Therefore, beseech the Lord of the harvest to
send out workers into His harvest (Matt. 9:37, 38).
To God be the glory!
FRIDAY
MORNING LADIES' BIBLE STUDY
Throughout the winter months the Friday morning
Ladies' Bible study group had to cancel their get-
together many times due to illness either to
members of this group or their relatives. However,
meetings resumed on April 22, 2006, and a decision
was made to continue to meet throughout the
summer on a "whenever possible" basis. We have
begun to study the three letters of John (I, II, and
III John).
We are a group of diversified ladies who come from
all different kinds of backgrounds. We are moms
with children of all ages-from school-age to young
adults. So, when it comes to sharing, it is very
interesting and colourful as we touch each others'
hearts and inspire each other in different ways.
If you are free on Friday mornings, please consider
joining our little group. We welcome all newcomers.

More "One Anothers"!
In the Summer edition of the Olive Branch
Newsletter, several "one anothers" were listed.
Here are yet more "One Anothers" for us to
contemplate as we desire to develop deep, caring
relationships with others. Try focusing on one per
month until the Winter newsletter hits the streets.
August - Carry one another's burden (Gal 6:2)
September - Forgive one another (Eph 4:32)
October - Speak to one another with psalms,
hymns and spiritual songs (Eph 5:21)
November - Submit to one another out of
reverence for Christ (Eph 5:21)
December - In humility, consider others better
than yourselves (Phil 2:3)"
